What is Trauma-Informed Care?
At Embodied Wisdom Institute, Trauma-Informed Care isn’t just something we “do”—it’s how we show up. Think of it as the way we hold space for everyone who walks through our doors, whether they’re here to heal, grow, stretch, rest, hang out with people with similar interests, or just figure things out. It’s a gentle, thoughtful, and compassionate way of being with one another, grounded in the belief that safety, trust, and choice are essential for all of us.
Now, let’s clear something up: you don’t need a “trauma story” to belong here. Our trauma-informed approach is for everyone. Whether life feels like a tangled ball of yarn, a little frayed around the edges, or even just fine but you’d like to feel a little more relaxed, grounded, or good in your body—you are welcome here. Participating in classes or services can be a way to care for yourself, prevent stress from piling up, or simply take time to unwind. We honor where you are, how you feel, and what you need—no explanations required.
Here’s what our approach looks like (and don’t worry, no jargon ahead):
Safety: A no-judgment zone, guaranteed. Think soft lighting, kind humans, and space to just be.
Trustworthiness: Like your favorite restaurant that never messes up your order, we believe consistency and reliability matter.
Choice: You’re in charge. We’ll offer ideas, options, and support, but you get to decide what feels right for you.
Empowerment: You already have strength, wisdom, and resilience. We’re just here to cheer you on as you reconnect with or foster it.
Collaboration: This is a team effort, and we’re on your team. Whether you’re leading the way or just dipping your toes in, we’re right there beside you.
We take our work seriously, but we don’t believe taking care of ourselves has to feel like a heavy chore. Sometimes there’s room for humor, for a shared smile, or for celebrating the small wins—because those count, too.
